EVENTS

We encourage members and potential members to join us for monthly meetings at Sterling Heights Recreation Center on the fourth Thursday of (almost) every month at noon.  Contact us at WomenDocsVillages2022@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to join. Monday, Aug.3 - Happy Hour. Let's meet at Evans Prairie Country Club 4 - 6 pm for drinks and/or dinner.  No RSVP is necessary.

Movie and Meal. This activity is on a break for August. See us in Sept.

Thursday, Aug. 13 - Book Club. The club meets the second Thursday of the month at 1 pm at Fenney Recreation Center.  

Saturday, Aug. 15 - Outing.  An Indonesian Independence Celebration will be held at 5:30 - 8:15 pm at Everglades Regional Rec Center. The event comes with dinner at a cost of $25. RSVP to Christa for a headcount.

Monday, Aug. 17 - Lunch. We meet for lunch on the third Monday of the month at 11:30 am. Location this month is Nancy Lopez Country Club. RSVP to Janice; she will always need a head count for reservations.

Sunday, Aug. 23 - Arts, Crafts & Curious. The craft time starts at 1:30 pm at Lake Okahumpka Recreation Center the fourth Sunday of the month. This month we have an Introduction to Meditative Zentangle with Beth Hall. RSVP by 8/9.

 

Thursday, Aug. 27 - General Meeting. The meeting is on the fourth Thursday of the month at 12 noon at Sterling Heights Recreation. The League of Women Voters will present Election Security vs. Access: A Delicate Balance. There is time to socialize and eat your bag lunch after the presentation. 

Thursday, Aug. 27 - Travel Discussion.  Kathleen Gowin and Wendy Pirie will be presenting on their trips to Egypt.

 September 2026

Tuesday, Sept. 1 - Movie and Meal. We meet for a matinee movie inside the Epic Theatre at Lake Sumter Landing in front of the room where the movie will play 15 minutes before the movie.  This month's movie will be decided by a poll on Facebook starting the Thursday before the movie.  Please vote for your choices and then check on the Monday before it to see which movie and what time.  (If you don't do Facebook, you can email Monika with your choice.) 
 

We each get our own tickets, and you can buy them at the theater window, or skip the line and buy them online at Epic's website or at the kiosk inside the theater (my favorite).  If you join their Loyalty Club, the tickets are less than $7 on Tuesdays!  Please wear your name tag so we can find each other.  Afterwards we will go for an optional meal and socializing at Lake Sumter Landing.

Thursday, Sept. 10 - Book Club. The club meets the second Thursday of the month at 1 pm at Fenney Recreation Center.   This month's book is Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout.

Saturday, Sept. 12 - Theater 1. The play Blithe Spirit will show at 2 pm at The Ice House Theater in Mt. Dora. You must send money to Christie by Sept. 1  The cost is $27.  There will be a dinner option TBA.

Saturday, Sept. 19 - Theater 2. The play The Music Lives On: Viva Veri will show at 7 pm at the Old Mill Playhouse. Purchase tickets at the Villages Box Office; this production may sell out!  The cost is $24.  There will be a food/drink option TBA.

Monday, Sept. 21 - Lunch. We meet for lunch on the third Monday of the month at 11:30 am. Location this month is Sawgrass Food Court at 766 Marilee Place. RSVP to Janice; she will always need a head count for reservations.

Thursday, Sept. 24 - General Meeting. The meeting is on the fourth Thursday of the month at 12 noon at Sterling Heights Recreation. Our speaker is Angela Vickers, who will present Mental Illness Overview: Ending Prejudice Through Education. There is time to socialize and eat your bag lunch after the presentation. 

Sunday, Sept. 27 - Arts, Crafts & Curious. The craft time starts at 1:30 pm at Lake Okahumpka Recreation Center the fourth Sunday of the month. 

 

 Wednesday, Sept. 27, Theater 3. The play Chickens and Biscuits will begin at 7 pm at SigPro Studio Theatre at Lake Sumter Landing. There will be a pre-play dinner TBA.

WEEKLY EVENTS

Bridge.  The Bridge group meets twice a month on the second and fourth Sunday from 2 - 4 pm.  Contact coordinator Connie Ratliffe the Thursday before Sunday play. You must know the basics. You may also respond on Facebook.

Executive Golf (North) WDC’s two golf groups play weekly.  Both groups are relaxed, non-competitive groups.  The North group plays on Thursdays on executive courses north of Lake Sumter Landing. Contact Dorothy Cook-Walter for locations and tee times. Weather might keep these events from happening, so contact coordinators.

 

Executive Golf (South).  WDC’s two golf groups play weekly.  Both groups are relaxed, non-competitive groups. The South group plays on Fridays on executive courses south of C.R. 466. Contact Jane Howard to play with the South group. Weather might keep these events from happening, so contact coordinators.

Mahjong The group meets Mondays at 1 pm in members' homes. You must know how to play at an intermediate or above level. Contact Judi Bessette to take part.

Samba.  Our Samba group is on hiatus for the summer, but Nancy is willing to teach WDC members interesting in learning the game. If you are interested, contact Nancy directly.
